Project Overview
Breathable Streets is a research and media collective based at UC San Diego focused on reimagining public safety through the lens of community wellbeing. The initiative works with local stakeholders, including youth, to challenge traditional safety narratives and advocate for equitable, restorative approaches to urban policy.
My Role
As a research and communications assistant, I supported the development of public-facing materials, conducted narrative and policy research, and mentored high school students engaged in the program. Key contributions included:
Conducted communications research around air quality, mobility equity, and safety policy across San Diego County
Co-developed storytelling resources and civic engagement toolkits for students and local stakeholders
Edited and synthesized youth-generated content into media-ready materials
Supported strategy for community engagement events and digital communications
Helped translate complex urban policy concepts into accessible, equity-centered messaging
